One of the best parts of this trail is the constant view of the Pacific Ocean. The sunlight reflecting off the water and the sound of waves below made the entire hike feel peaceful and refreshing.

Early in the hike, we noticed a few Western Gulls flying and resting along the shoreline. Their calls and easy gliding over the water added to the classic coastal atmosphere.

Pelicans and Cormorants in the Air

Brown Pelicans Brown Pelicans

Many Brown Pelicans soared gracefully along the cliffs, sometimes passing by in loose groups as they rode the ocean breeze. We also spotted a few Brandt’s Cormorants, their darker silhouettes standing out against the bright water.

One of the more interesting sightings was a Long-billed Curlew. Its long curved bill made it instantly recognizable as it moved along the beach, searching for food.

Away from the immediate shoreline, we found smaller birds active in the vegetation along the trail.
