Last weekend, we headed up to the Laguna Mountain area for a sunny January morning hike on the Red-Tailed Roost and Agua Dulce Trail Loop. The crisp air and clear skies made it feel like a perfect winter escape just outside San Diego.

A Moderate Loop With Big Rewards

The 4.6-mile loop offered a comfortably moderate challenge, with gentle climbs and peaceful forest stretches. The trail flowed nicely and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.

A Pair of Special Woodpeckers

One of the standout moments of the hike was seeing both a Red-breasted Sapsucker and a Williamson’s Sapsucker.
