Our recent vacation in Patagonia brought us to one of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever hiked—Tierra del Fuego National Park. On a chilly, cloudy morning, we set out on the Hito XXIV Trail, a scenic 4.5-mile route that winds through dense forests, along rivers, and toward the Argentine-Chilean border. The crisp air and peaceful atmosphere made for an unforgettable experience.

The forest was alive with the sounds of birds, and almost immediately, we spotted the first of many White-crested Elaenias flitting among the branches. Their constant movement and lively calls set a wonderful tone for the hike.

One of the highlights of our hike was watching an Austral Thrush foraging on the ground. As we quietly observed, it pulled a wriggling worm from the damp earth, shaking it before gulping it down. It was a simple yet fascinating moment, a small glimpse into the daily life of Patagonia’s wildlife.
