Last weekend, we ventured to Cabrillo National Monument to hike the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and Coast Trail. This 2.7-mile moderate trail offered a fantastic combination of coastal views, historical charm, and wildlife encounters, making for a memorable sunny day adventure.

We began our hike near the historic Old Point Loma Lighthouse, an iconic structure that overlooks the San Diego Bay.

Early in the hike, a California Thrasher caught our attention. Its curved bill and playful movements as it searched the ground for food made for a delightful start to our birdwatching journey.

One of the most exciting moments came when we spotted a Sage Thrasher, a bird we had never seen before. Its subtle plumage and graceful presence were a thrilling highlight, marking another memorable addition to our birdwatching adventures.

As we descended toward the coastline, we were greeted by the sight of countless Brown Pelicans gliding effortlessly above the water in their iconic V-formation.

Lesser Goldfinch
In the vegetation along the trail, a group of Lesser Goldfinches flitted about, their vibrant yellow feathers glowing in the sunlight. An Anna's Hummingbird was also hard at work, feeding on a small flower with incredible precision and energy.
