Starting the New Year on the Trail

On New Year’s Day, we decided to kick off the year with a refreshing hike on the Osprey and Kumeyaay Trail near Lake Wohlford, California. This easy, 3-mile loop provided the perfect blend of gentle exercise and beautiful natural surroundings to begin 2025 on a positive note.

The morning sun cast a warm glow over the trail, making the air feel crisp yet pleasant. The clear skies provided excellent visibility, and the peaceful setting gave us a chance to reflect on the year ahead while enjoying the tranquility of the outdoors.

Along a sunnier section of the trail, we encountered a Say’s Phoebe perched confidently on a fence post. Its soft coloring and quick movements made it a joy to watch. A little further along, a Bewick’s Wren darted through the brush, its tiny frame and lively movements captivating our attention.

Yellow-rumped Warblers were the stars of the morning. We saw many of these charming little birds flitting from tree to tree, their cheerful activity adding life to the trail. Their yellow plumage caught the sunlight beautifully, brightening our path.
