This Christmas morning, we decided to start the day with a refreshing hike on the Fortuna and Rim Loop Trail in Mission Trails Regional Park, San Diego. At just 2.2 miles in length and easy in difficulty, this trail was the perfect choice to enjoy some holiday peace amidst the beauty of nature.

The December sun shone brightly as we began our hike, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The trail meandered through a mix of open terrain and shaded areas, with the peaceful ambiance adding to the magic of the holiday.

We hadn’t been on the trail long when we spotted a Nuttall’s Woodpecker busy tapping away on a nearby tree. Its distinctive black-and-white pattern and red crown made it an eye-catching start to our birdwatching.
